Our recent venture into the heart of power generation presented a critical scenario that demanded innovative solutions. Today, we share the inspiring story of our team’s stellar success in a project that not only averted a crisis but also set a new standard in composite repair solutions.
Our client, a major player in power generation, faced a daunting issue – a 1.2m diameter water Y-piece line with distressing low wall thickness readings. This lifeline supplied water to boilers at both the regional power stations, making the potential consequences of failure staggering. The looming threat of a dual power station shutdown prompted our team to rise to the occasion with determination and expertise.
Collaboration with the project manager paved the way for KLINGER Mzansi to propose a cutting-edge solution – a composite repair strategy to fortify the water line’s longevity. The plan involved wrapping the line with five layers of carbon fibre and sealing it with a UV-resistant epoxy coating. This groundbreaking approach promised to extend the line’s lifespan by an impressive 20 years, safeguarding the power stations’ operations for decades to come.
From September 26th to the 29th of 2023, our team executed the project with precision, ensuring that the power plants continued to operate seamlessly throughout the process. This achievement not only showcased technical prowess but also underscored our commitment to minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency for our clients.
No project is without its challenges, and this was no exception. One noteworthy highlight was our team’s unwavering tenacity in dealing with constant water under the pipe, a hurdle that required continuous pumping. The team’s determination and expertise played a pivotal role in overcoming this challenge, turning it into a testament to their resilience and problem-solving skills.
The crowning achievement of this project is the peace of mind it bestows upon our client. With the successful completion of the repair, the water line can now operate for an additional two decades without the looming spectre of shutdowns.
